FIG Director Markku Villikka visited the Swedish Surveying and Valuation Conference in Stockholm 18-19 October 2006. This annual natioanal conference was attended by about 400 participants who listened for two days on presentations on surveying, valuation and real estate management. Several presentations were focussing on case studies on recent project and legislation changes in Sweden. The presentation of the FIG Director was about international trends and outcome from the FIG Congress in Munich that ended the previous week. Even though the conference was a national event there were some participants from other Nordic countries.

From international point of view the interesting feature in Sweden is that about fifty per cent of surveyors are working in real estate business and facility management. This was clearly seen also in the selection of topics. The conference was organised jointly by the Sveriges Lantmätareförening, SLF (The Swedish Association of Chartered Surveyors), FIG's member association in Sweden and The Swedish Society of Real Estate Economics (Samfundet för fastighetsekonomi). These two associations are on the way to merge to one association within the next few years.

The conference was organised at the Stockholm City Conference Centre (Folkets Hus) that will also be the venue of FIG Working Week 2008.
