CELEBRATION OF FIG 140TH ANNIVERSARY AND HANDOVER
Friday 9 November 2018, Athen, Greece
FIG was founded on 18 July 1878 in Paris by delegates from seven
national associations – Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy,
Spain and Switzerland – and was
known as the Fédération Internationale des Géomètres. This has become
anglicized
to the International Federation of Surveyors.
The year 2018 marks the 140 anniversary of FIG. It is an honour to
celebrate this special occasion together with a handover event marking
the end of term for current FIG President Chryssy Potsiou, Greece
(2015–2018) to President Elect Rudolf Staiger, Germany, who will take
over the FIG presidency on 1 January 2019.
The day of celebration will take place on 9 November 2018 in Athens,
Greece.
It will take place in conjunction with the Conference TUFE2018
organized by Technical Chamber of Greece in cooperation with Surveyors
(FIG), Architects (UIA), Civil Engineers (ECCE), and the Working Party
on Land Administration (UNECE WPLA), on 7-9 November, under the general
topic: Economy, Society and Climate Change-The Impact of Mega trends in
the Built Environment, Construction Industry and Real Estate (www.tufe2018.com/).
The conference will be held at EUGENIDES FOUNDATION, 387 Syngrou Avenue
– 175 64 P. Faliro, Greece.
The celebration will start with a plenary session on Friday morning,
followed by two sessions dedicated to the celebration of the 140th
anniversary, and the hand-over ceremony. By the end of the day, the
closing of TUFE will take place with a panel discussion. For the full
programme, please click

The celebration will end with a dinner at the Benaki Museum. The Benaki Museum of Greek Culture is
housed in one of the most beautiful neoclassical-style buildings in the
center of Athens, close to the Greek Parliament. It was converted into a
museum in order to shelter the collections of Antonis Benakis and was
donated to the Greek nation. Following its most recent refurbishment,
the building houses a unique exhibition on Greek culture.
It will be a magnificent day – a festive celebration of the 140th
anniversary, the conclusion of President Potsiou's term and the
hand-over to incoming President Staiger.
