49th Photogrammetric Week (PhoWo)

Stuttgart, 1-5 September 2003

At the 49th Photogrammetric Week in Stuttgart more than 400 participants from 45 countries were following a very interesting program. First time the PhoWo was organized by the University without the partnership of Carl Zeiss. It was now open to all vendors of photogrammetric and GIS systems.

During the opening ceremony President John Trinder (ISPRS) and Vice President Ralf Schroth (FIG) were welcomed. The program with its lectures in the morning and the practical demonstrations in the afternoon were based on the topics digital sensors, distributed data processing of large data sets and 3D-visualisation. The strong reference to practical applications made the conference again to an interesting and successful event. The exchange of experiences between system suppliers, service companies, surveying organizations and users was one of the main aims. But also the application of the new technologies and the future trends were an important topic for the participants.

The demonstrations in the afternoon were presented by the University of Stuttgart, ZI Imaging (Intergraph), Leica Geosystems, Inpho and IGI. 40% of the participants were coming from German speaking countries. The presentations were given in English and German, a simultaneous translation
was available. The demonstrations were taking place in several groups separated by the language of the participants.

As all papers were invited the event was very homogeneous and the presentations on a high level of quality. It seems that the success of this conference with its long tradition keeps on in the next future.
The papers are available in printed form, CD and on www.ifp.uni-stuttgart.de.
